Risks
Staking is not risk-free. This page lists what can cause a loss or a delay, and what Tako does about each.
Smart contract bugs
Section titled “Smart contract bugs”A bug in the contracts could lose or lock funds.
What protects you: two internal reviews with a regression test for every finding, randomized tests that check the pool’s books after every step, tests against the real TON Elector, and an external audit before mainnet. Code changes go through a public two-day timelock. See Security.
Validator penalties
Section titled “Validator penalties”A validator that misbehaves can be fined by the network. Tako lends to validators, so a fine can hit pool money.
What protects you:
- Every validator puts up its own collateral, and the fine is taken from that first.
- Beyond the collateral, the insurance fund pays.
- Only what is left is shared between all holders and queued claims, in proportion. Queuing a withdrawal right before a fine does not dodge it.
Fines on TON are rare and usually small, but they exist.
Waiting for your Gram
Section titled “Waiting for your Gram”An instant withdrawal needs free liquidity. If many people leave at once, the free part runs out and new withdrawals become claims, paid when validators return the next stake, usually within a round. Your claim’s value is fixed when you create it.
Prize draws
Section titled “Prize draws”Your deposit in a draw is never part of the prize, but while you are in, its yield goes to the prize instead of to you. If you do not win, you earned nothing for that period. Deposits are locked for at least one period.
Draws depend on drand. If drand stopped, a closed draw would wait for it, and deposits in that vault would stay frozen until the beacon appears.
Governance
Section titled “Governance”The governor can change parameters and upgrade the treasury and vault code, but only through a timelock: every action is public for at least two days before it can run, long enough to withdraw. The halter can pause deposits and loans immediately, but cannot touch funds or block withdrawals. See Governance.
Migration sources
Section titled “Migration sources”Migration relies on the other pool’s contracts. If they change, migrations stop and tokens are returned; they are not lost.
The network itself
Section titled “The network itself”Tako depends on TON and its Elector working as designed. Changes to validator rewards change everyone’s yield, not just Tako’s.
